Yam Balls

Yams balls are delicious Nigerian snack made using yams as the name suggest, its usually served at celebrations, easy and straight forward to make...Nice to have while relaxing and chilling...You can play with it and add more stuff like mashed fish, minced meat or whatever you feel like...Wink

Ingredients
  • yam cut into tiny pieces  
  • onions roughly chopped
  • tomatoes diced
  • garlic (optional)
  • salt
  • cayenne pepper/chilli pepper
  • seasoning
  • thyme
  • butter
  • egg
  • flour
  • breadcrumbs
  • oil for deep frying


Lets Make It...
1. Put the yam into a pot with enough water to boil it (the water will dry up in the pot so just enough to make it very very soft). Add onions, garlic gloves, butter, salt, pepper, thyme. Cover and allow to cook till its very soft. Add the diced tomatoes.
2. Break the egg in a plate and whisk. On a flat surface pour flour. Pour breadcrumbs on a try or another flat surface.
3. Take the yam off heat when well cooked and water dried or almost dried. Mash with a potato masher or pound in a small mortar.
4. Roll into a ball on the floured surface. Dip in the egg and then roll and cover it up with the breadcrumbs.
5. Put a pan on heat with oil. When hot. Deep fry the yam balls until golden brown and move to a paper tower.
6. It is ready to be munched...Enjoy
